Possible reason(s) for Djokovic refusing to give up despite ankle injury @ 2013 Davis Cup 'clinching' match against Querrey.

Do you think Djokovic would have continued if Australian Open was next, instead of the FO? How about if Nadal was not contending @ the FO? Too much? Then how about if Nadal hadn't won even a single tournament of the four he competed in after coming out of the break?

For rock people, Australian Open is Djokovic's most successful Slam. He has four of them - three in a row AND out of his total of six career Slams, four of them are AO. And for toddlers of rock people, Nadal is a tennis player - pronounced Nedl.

Djokovic, of course, would never admit to above BS. Reason? He is himself not aware of it as these VITAL events are orchestrated behind the curtain called the subconscious mind. It - again - boils down to my 'beaten to death' pain vs pleasure theory. Davis Cup vs AO and Davis Cup vs FO. Getting the pitchker? When you already have one bird in hand, why let it go for the two in the bush @ Roland Garros?

Besides, there's now an already ripe and ready to be picked alibi for whatever may happen on clay. These events don't happen out of the blue. Their root is embedded deep inside a psyche that even the contraption housing it is oblivious of.

Heck, EVEN the grandfather episode last season and the fall out from it was no coincidence. It would have DEFINITELY played out LOT differently (at least with respect to conditions that Djokvoic controlled) if AO was on the line instead of some clay season with the ruler of the land in full flight and thirsty for revenge.

For better clarity, it would never happen if, for Nadal, Roland Garros was next or for Federer, Wimbledon was next and you can go on and on............

Additionally, you need brass balls and high self esteem to stop under those conditions specially when the direction finger would point to would be no guess: You chose personal gain over your country. Add to that Djokovic's track record of pathetic retirements dating back to the dawn of civilization and you know a fragile 'everybody, please I am begging you, love me' psyche is beyond-incapable of dealing with it with any sense of rationale.
