Quick-fire trio of goals surprise Spurs three points - The Independent

It occurred in the area of just six minutes and 22 seconds, the time it took for Tottenham Hotspur to report three unbelievable objectives and for the bubble to burst for Roberto Mancinias area for what'll surely be the last time in 2013. They couldn't have caused it to be much simpler for Manchester United if they had tried, given that the leaders need only get at Old Trafford today to make their 20th title official. They could not have made it easier for Manchester United if they had tried, now that the leaders need only win at Old Trafford tonight to create their 20th champion official. It can't be that City have now been intimidated in to allowing their neighbors surge to the subject with potentially four activities of the season left to perform, because there was nothing especially scary about Unitedas kind of late. Instead, yesterday, a familiar anxiety got hold of City and once it'd hold, there clearly was no telling just how bad things could easily get for them. For many of the very first half, during which they took the lead through Samir Nasri, City lived up to their billing because the form team of the month with Carlos Tevez making the Spurs support like butterfly lovers in futile search of one elusive sample. On 42 minutes when Hugo Lloris rather reached out a to stop it, an instant that Andre Villas-Boas would later identify as crucial to the morning the Argentine should have scored their second goal. For a good deal of the next, and much of that first half, Villas-Boas appeared as if a man considering the collapse of his period. The match was ended by him being forced to restrain his assistant Steffen Freund from joining in the target activities. Somewhere in the heart was a tactical move that'll take pride of invest the Villas-Boas teaching dossier, and no doubt those theses that argue for him as you of the great modern coaches. On the hour, he exchanged Scott Parker and Gylfi Sigurdsson with Tom Huddlestone and Lewis Holtby and changed the game. A dozen minutes later he substituted the hapless Emannuel Adebayor for Jermain Defoe who won the 2nd and everything was recast in the favorite imagination as a tactical masterpiece. You might say that there have been precious few other options at his disposal, or that no-one would definitely be less effective at centre-forward than Adebayor, not really, say, Jake Livermore. In when he considered the counter truth Villas-Boas had few options when it stumbled on pursuing the game against the champions, but he deserves the credit for at least taking the plunge. It had been Huddlestone who handed to Bale for the next, and Holtby who provided Defoe for the next target. Suddenly Spurs had come to life and, it was about time after one gain in their last seven games in most competitions. They moved to a 4-3-3 development and City had no answer, getting on the lesser-spotted Scott Sinclair and then Joleon Lescott in a small try to change the overall game around. It thrusts Spurs back in one's heart of the exciting three-way battle between themselves, Chelsea and Arsenal for the three Champions League places. If it is still alive by the time that Spurs visit Stamford Bridge two weeks on Wednesday, the overall game in hand both sides have over Arsenal, then that match claims to be an absorbing contest with so much at stake for both groups. As for City, at times it is hard to see when they play in addition to they did in the very first half why it's gone so wrong for them this season. In the first 5 minutes, Jan Vertonghen made the mistake of believing he had seen off the risk from Tevez, ushering him out to the right prior to the City man suddenly changed course. He played in James Milner who slice the ball back again to Nasri for a tidy end. Nasri was fortunate that referee Lee Mason didn't begin to see the full scope of his bad concern on Kyle Walker seven minutes later which went largely unnoticed on the Spurs counter also. Nasri, and then Edin Dzeko, had further odds in the first half but were not able to complete. Gareth Barry was running the midfield much as he had against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final weekly earlier, but trouble was just nearby. Spurs had threatened just once in the first half when Joe Hart was required to produce a great save yourself from Walker as he went onto a by Clint Dempsey in to the right channel of the place. It was Dempsey who obtained Spursa equaliser, a ball enjoyed the outside of Baleas left foot from the proper side. It presented itself great for tucking away at the post, and eluded Vincent Kompany, out of sorts in the 2nd half. Bale had started in a place behind Adebayor and fought after a two fit absence to find a place in the overall game. He looked far more efficient on the best wing. It was Holtby who won the ball in midfield for the next goal, driving it out to the right route where Defoe had taken Kompany. The Spurs person moved the ball back onto his right foot as he carried it to the area and struck one of those harsh pictures that are past the goalkeeper before he reacts. It was Defoeas first goal in the league since Boxing Day and by the period, White Hart Lane was in raptures and the old confidence was flooding back. Huddlestone, an extraordinary person in midfield, who handed the City tired well as ball, made the 3rd goal. He noticed a of opportunity between two defenders as He was backed off by City to create the opening and Bale put the third softly over Hart with the exterior of his left foot. Sport over for City who'd probably rather get the worst of it out the way in which tonight with a United victory over Aston Villa that forms the subject race once and for all and allows Mancinias staff to concentrate on obtaining 2nd place and winning the FA Cup final on 11 May possibly. It will be painful to hand the trophy back but then if they desired reminding of where they've gone wrong over the last ten months then recently encompassed a lot of the negative and the good.
