Surprises and Disappointments from Portland Trail Blazers' 2012-13 Period

The Portland Trail Blazers season has been full of many positive shocks in addition to many disappointments as up-and-down performances are delivered by the team. The Blazers may end the year about 10 games right back of the area in the Western Conference, while the playoffs were once possible. This group was not initially expected to participate this season, but it proved throughout the year that it was better than the preseason ratings. The Blazers have a brilliant future, whilst the end of the entire year has been unsatisfactory. Listed here are the biggest surprises and disappointments from Portland's 2012-13 period. Surpise: Damian Lillard Ronald Martinez/Getty Photos While large things were predicted from the sixth pick in the draft, expectations have been completely blown by Damian Lillard out of the water. He's hightail it with the Rookie of the Year Award, making the news at the end of the year a mere formality. Lillard has been spectacular with this well-rounded game. His scoring power has made him a massive tool for the Blazers. He can defeat competitors with his easy jumper or use his speed to have by defenders on his solution to the container. The biggest shock this year with regard to Lillard has been his play against a few of the best teams in the category. He scored 33 factors against the Miami Heat, slipped 35 in a knocking of the San Antonio Spurs and put in 38 against the La Lakers. Lillard is on his method to popularity in the category. Expect you'll see him in the All-Star game for decades to come. Disappointment: The Bench Harry How/Getty Images The Blazers table has been definitely the worst in the group in terms of minutes, helps, rebounds and factors. In a year, there wasn't much expected from the table mixed with journeymen and unskilled young players. Planning into last night's game, the Blazers benched was averaging just 18.4 things, 10.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Throughout every season, the Blazers have already been too dependent on the beginning five, that has had to play key minutes. The amount of incidents that beginners experienced down the stretch brings in to question whether or not they certainly were playing too many minutes. Through the offseason, the Blazers really need to address their table and then add depth and production. Surprise: Aggressive Doug Pensinger/Getty Images At several points throughout the season, the Blazers were aggressive. Before a losing streak in February, the group was really competing for a playoff spot. The 2nd half of the time has been mostly a tragedy as the aforementioned streak have been endured both by Portland and the current 12-game fall that started by the end of last month. The Blazers weren't really anticipated to participate this season because they entered a rebuilding year. That process was sped up by damian Lillard, and Nicolas Batum, Wesley Matthews and LaMarcus Aldridge experienced very fine seasons. As the Blazers didn't have the composure or expertise to create a reliable postseason run, the team's competitive nature has to be considered as an enormous positive heading into next season. Disappointment: Rebounding and Safety Harry How/Getty Photos Both of these disappointments are connected because I think they stem from exactly the same issue: the Blazers not enough a real center. While J.J. Hickson has been ultra-productive as a fill-in beginner, he's a power forward through and through. The insufficient size at the middle position has allowed competitors to shoot 47.4 percent from the floora'the second-highest percentage in the league. Meyers Leonard indicates some potential and might still end to be the guy at the center. But he still has lots of work to complete before getting that player. The Blazers achievement next time may largely depend on how they address the middle position. They have the unpleasant components to subject a solid team, but they have to obtain stops and restrict one other team's offense. Surprise: J.J. Hickson Kelley T Cox-USA TODAY Activities The Blazers knew a bit of what J.J. Hickson can do after he averaged 15.1 factors and 8.3 rebounds per game all through his 19-game stint with the team a year ago. He is entirely exceeded expectations with nightly averages of 12.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, this season. The double-double machine has done each of his work playing out of position. It makes their summer a little more difficult, while his play has been ideal for the Blazers. Leading office now must determine whether or not Hickson will probably be worth big money, evaluating that determination against the chance for getting a more natural center. With respect to the market, Hickson can definitely be a area of the Blazers strategies moving forward. His effective play on the bad end is a great fit with the rest of the crime. His ability to work the lane and his comprehension of spacing make him a great system along side Damian Lillard. Disappointment: Dropping Streaks Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Activities The absolute most unsatisfactory part of the Blazers time has been the numerous long losing streaks that took the team out of contention. At the center of January, the group lost six straight games, including four home games. In February, they lost ten straight games, including one at home. And now, they're on a losing streak (seven home failures) with one game remaining on the year. If the group hadn't played so well at different times during the year, these losing streaks wouldn't look so bad. Over summer and winter, this group proved it might play with everyone in the league on any given night. The fact that they are able to not find methods to stop losing lines sooner is really a massive a disappointment. While the Blazers need personnel upgrades, in order to avoid offering too many activities they also need to boost their target. Start Slideshow Props (0) What is the duplicate article?
