Borussia Dortmund wish Robert Lewandowski will remain at club - The Guardian

The Borussia Dortmund instructor, JArgen Klopp, is confident Champions League hero Robert Lewandowski may remain at the Westfalenstadion next time. Lewandowski was the scourge of Real Madrid on Wednesday night, scoring all four objectives in a great individual screen as Dortmund surprised JosA Mourinho's area 4-1 in the very first leg of these semi-final link. The 24-year-old Poland striker is going of commitment at the end of next season and has so far refused to commit to a fresh offer, meaning Dortmund should now consider whether to cash in at the end of the season or chance lose him for nothing in 2014. Speculation in Germany has suggested Bayern Munich are leading the race to sign Lewandowski and match him up yet again with Mario GAtze, Dortmund's Germany playmaker who this week agreed a shift south after Bayern met his release condition. The representative of the Bayern instructor, Jupp Heynckes, even stated this week Lewandowski had a contract in place with the Bundesliga winners but Klopp is ready to play the waiting game. "I don't get the feeling Robert is on the run," Klopp told ZDF tv. "We'll have to see what happens." Lewandowski declined to discuss his future post-match however the Dortmund common director, Hans-Joachim Watzke, outlined the club's determination to help keep him for another 12 months even if it means seeing him eventually depart on a free exchange. "Our wish is explicit that he remains here," he told Sky tv. "We will do without finding a transfer payment for him a' that doesn't interest us at all. Robert's agreement runs until 2014 and, unlike Mario GAtze, there is no get-out clause." Klopp thinks Lewandowski wrote his name in to Dortmund folklore on Wednesday night, adding: "Whenever I go through the Borusseum [the club's museum], I usually see the same old movies. Probably now Robert's four objectives will find a location inside, however for that to happen, we've got to build with this in the next leg." Despite holding a handsome first-leg lead, Klopp contends his side won't relax in next week's return at the BernabAu. "We aren't a staff who will simply guard a result," he said. "We always want to strike. I added [Sebastian] Kehl and [Kevin] Grosskreutz to reinforce us defensively, and the first thing they did was in the Actual Madrid penalty area. I think that says everything. "We have played an extraordinary game against an excellent team, but nothing has been determined yet. But even though we get knocked out, nobody may take this night far from us."
