Sunderland have lost almost no time to locate an upgraded manager for Martin O'Neill, selecting Paolo Di Canio as their new manager for the rest of the year. Based on BBC Sport, a two-and-a-half-year deal have been signed by Di Canio at the Stadium of Light, with his first task that of preserving the membership from relegation. The Black Cats are currently winless through their past nine games and have slipped to only one place above the relegation zone. With only eight games remaining in the Premier League year, Sunderland can seems to have a genuine struggle on their hands to remain aliveAa'which, whenever you think about it, makes Di Canio the great man for the work. He does, but, have playing experience in the group, which saw him chalk up seasons at Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham United and Charlton Athletic. Furthermore, Di Canio has power and the interest needed to fire up Sunderland over the remaining seven games and awaken the skill that's gone dormant included. Called a really enigmatic player throughout his time in the category, Di Canio's wholehearted excitement could well be a huge catalyst for change at the Stadium of Lighta'which could well be the difference between staying up or taking place at the end of the year. And while Sunderland will not admit to it, the reality is that should they drop to the champion, Di Canio is a great director to possess there. Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said of Di Canio's hiring (via BBC ): Paolo is hugely enthused by the process that lies in front of him. He is influenced, passionate and preparing to get started. The only real target of everybody for another eight games is to ensure we obtain our top-flight status to be maintained by enough points. I do believe that the chances of that are significantly improved with Paolo joining us. Di Canio has won 54 of his 95 activities as a manager up to now (all at Swindon Town) and will be seeking to improve on his 57-percent winning percentage here. However, with the chance to hold a struggling club from being directed, it appears anything else is going to be secondary to that particular for the dynamic Italian director.
