LSU Soccer 2013 Spring Game: Zach Mettenberger Shows Great Maturity at QB

An estimated total of 28,000 supporters loaded Tiger Stadium on Saturday morning for LSU's yearly spring football scrimmage. Many these 28,000 supporters had their eyes glued with this LSU football team and one person in particular: senior-to-be quarterback Zach Mettenberger. After as supporters desired to observe their quarterback had enhanced this offseason an up-and-down senior plan in 2012, all eyes were on Mettenberger on Saturday. If Saturday was any implication of what is ahead, Mettenberger and this LSU crime must be just fine in the upcoming 2013 season. Mettenberger, or "Met" as he is called by his teammates, was brilliant in the scrimmage. He finished 12-of-19 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns while leading his White team to a rout on the Purple team. After a slow start in the first quarter, Mettenberger came living midway through the second quarter when he hit tight end Dillon Gordon on an excellent play-action move for a 15-yard touchdown strike to give the White team a 9-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, he dropped right back and struck Odell Beckham Jr. down the sideline for a 79-yard landing blast on the first play of the drive. On the drive, Mettenberger installed with Jarvis Landry on many wonderful passes, which only served but to make sure this LSU passing game has all the pieces needed to be volatile in the forthcoming year. Play after play and drive after drive, Mettenberger revealed poise and maturity out on the field while leading this LSU offense. Exceptional chemistry have been developed by him with both Beckham Jr. and Landry, who are expected to be LSU's starting wide receivers this season. He also showed signs of growth along with his limited ends, which can be something that was almost hidden throughout last season. More essential than any such thing, he showed leadership and readiness out on the field on Saturday. He did not allow a start get him down, but rather, he wear a driving center throughout the rest of the game while leading his group to a blowout victory in the scrimmage. You can find probably still those that doubt Mettenberger. But honestly, there are certain quarterbacks who collapse under some pressure, and then there are those who rise to the process and only learn from their mistakes. On Saturday, Mettenberger showed he certainly comes in to the latter on those two.
