Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox: Live Score, Analysis of AL East Battle

Welcome to the American League East matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays (14-24) and Boston Red Sox (22-15). It's the rubber match of a three-game series at Fenway Park in Boston between two teams with a growing rivalry.

The city of Toronto doesn't care for Boston manager John Farrell much after he left the team this past offseason for his "dream job" with the Red Sox. Fans took this as a slap in the face and showered him with boos when Boston played in Toronto in April.

Boston starting pitcher Clay Buchholz beat Toronto 10-1 on May 1. After the game, he was accused by Blue Jays' announcers of cheating by doctoring the ball to get more movement on his pitches.

Although Jack Morris, one of those broadcasters, subsequently apologized, the accusations set off a media firestorm and coincided with a Boston slump. Since that game, the Red Sox have gone just 3-7 and have dropped from the best record in baseball to third place in their division.

Boston's Ryan Dempster (2-3, 2.93 ERA) will face off against the Blue Jays' Chad Jenkins (0-0, 3.60 ERA for Triple-A Syracuse), who is making his first major league appearance this year. Brandon Morrow was supposed to start for Toronto but was scratched with back stiffness.
