Although the San Francisco 49ers have yet to announce the dates for the 2013 season, it's not too early to start projecting which games will be the best to watch.
The 49ers announced on Twitter that Thursday at 8 p.m. ET is when the defending NFC champions unveil next year's slate:
However, NFL.com has a helpful guide listing exactly who faces whom in 2013. The only thing left for Thursday is when the games will actually be. It's really a bit anticlimactic, but at least fans weren't left hanging wondering who each team's opponents are.
After an 11-4-1 regular season record and subsequent run to the Super Bowl, all eyes will be on San Francisco in the NFC in 2013. Everyone will want to see if Colin Kaepernick will be able to continue his impressive finish to 2012.
Hopefully Robert Griffin III will be healthy by the time this game rolls around. Mike Shanahan seems pretty confident in Griffin's ability to make a quick recovery, at least relative to the injury he suffered (h/t Kareem Copeland of NFL.com).
Watching Kaepernick and RGIII face off would be a treat for every football fan. It's not too far off to think they could combine for 150-200 rushing yards.
Even with Kirk Cousins, the Washington Redskins will be a good football team. Alfred Morris finished second in the league in rushing. And with the Redskins' defense, there will be a lot of points scored.
Who doesn't want to see the NFC championship game revisited? The 49ers came back from 17 points down to win the game, 28-21. It was the largest deficit ever overcome in an NFC title game.
As much as the Falcons will likely be dismissing the notion during the pregame hype, Atlanta's players and coaches will have remembered the loss all too well. Getting a win in San Francisco would be a little measure of revenge.
The Falcons and 49ers will be among the favorites to win the conference title in 2013, so this one will have some major postseason implications as well.
Although it's unlikely to match last year's playoff game, this is one of the games that should be circled on every fan's calendar.
The 49ers won the first matchup, 13-6, but were throttled in the Week 16 rematch, 42-13. San Francisco was only out-gained by 33 total yards, yet it lost by 29 points. It was just a shocking game to watch as the Seahawks were in their buzz-saw mode toward the end of the regular season.
These games will be pivotal in the NFC West race. Winning the division means you get home field for at least the first round of the playoffs.
Much like with the Redskins game, this will feature two young QB stars facing off. While Russell Wilson isn't as prolific as Kaepernick in terms of numbers, it's going to be great watching the two battle for years to come.
