John Wile: "Steve Clarke has done a good job with what is available." - Birmingham Mail

The former Hawthorns hero has been impressed with his smooth integration from working as a number two to becoming the main man.

Despite a recent drop in form Albion are on course to record their highest-ever Premier League points tally and Wile reckons Clarke deserves full credit for his efforts.

"The game has changed a lot nowadays, the power is with the player, and it probably wasn't so much so when he was a player,'' he said.

"But he seems to have got used to that, and has realised that it's not just the manager that makes decisions nowadays, there's plenty of voices."

Wile made more than 500 appearances for Albion between 1970-1983 and was also on the board at the club for five years between 1997 and 2002.
