5 Tottenham Hotspur Youngsters to Watch in 2013

After all, the club's grip on the top four is slowly fading away, a position that is all too familiar given last year's late-season slump saw them fall out of the Champions League.

While it makes perfect sense to feel bad about the team at the moment following such a dismal performance, Tottenham fans must search for a way to get over the loss and look forward to the rest of the season.

One of the only silver linings of Tottenham's awful loss to Fulham was the performance of Tom Carroll off the bench.

Carroll's weighted pass to Emmanuel Adebayor was inches away from finding the Togolese striker and shaping the equalizer.

The Englishman has made six appearances off the bench this season and has shown great signs of improvement. In fact, Carroll's ability to forge chances from possession is something the side could use on some occasions.

If Carroll continues to improve at the rate he's going now, it won't be long before he carves out a consistent spot in the first team for himself.

In his fifth season at Tottenham, Andros Townsend finally got his first appearance in the Premier League earlier this season.

After five appearances with Spurs in the first half of the season, Townsend went on loan to Queens Park Rangers in January and has earned a consistent spot in the starting lineup.

As of late, the 21-year-old has started to blossom as a player, scoring goals in two consecutive matches as QPR look to defy the odds and stay in the Premier League.

With Spurs' depth at winger being called into question (especially if Gareth Bale should leave in the summer), Townsend may have an obvious spot in the team when he comes back from his loan spell.

Hopefully, Andros will get more great experience at QPR and return in the summer ready to contribute at White Hart Lane.

Zeki Fryers' transfer to Tottenham from Standard Liege may have angered Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson, but the young defender may be a key player for Spurs in the near future.

After all, the club has a clear lack of depth at left back, where an injury to Benoit Assou-Ekotto earlier in the season resulted in Kyle Naughton, Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale rotating from other positions to provide cover.

Zeki is currently starring for Spurs' developmental side, even scoring a goal in the side's victory over the Manchester United reserves.

If Fryers can continue improving for the reserves, he should soon be able to create a niche for himself in the first team.

With only two experienced forwards in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, Spurs have neither the depth nor the consistent quality at the position to continue their rise to prominence.

While supporters will hope Tottenham buy some experienced strikers to replace the stuttering pair they have at the moment, the club will still need a few more options to add depth.

The youngster is currently on loan at Championship side Leicester City, where Spurs hope he will gain some invaluable experience before returning to the club.

Perhaps Kane isn't set to make an immediate impact for Tottenham quite yet, but a bit of improvement could set him up to become a massive player for the club in years to come.

After a great season on loan at Swansea City last year, the central defender has carved out an important spot for himself in the first team, even starting 15 Premier League matches thus far this season.

The 21-year-old has shown great potential and the ability to become one of Spurs' most important pieces, but has still had some below-par performances.

With the center-back position suddenly overflowing with talent, Caulker has the opportunity to learn from those ahead of him while getting some good experience in the team.

Tottenham supporters should look for improvement in Caulker's game as he represents the future of the club's defense.
