We knew Shaun Dion Hamilton was going to play his football in the SEC—now we know that he will be playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide (via Andrew Bone of Rivals).
With offers on the table from nearly every school imaginable, he trimmed down the list to just Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee. Considered a 4-star inside linebacker by 247Sports.com, Hamilton was torn between both Auburn and Alabama. Tennessee was still hanging around, but since he grew up in Montgomery, Ala., most believed that the two hometown schools were the front-runners from the beginning.
Lucky enough for Alabama, the Crimson Tide coaching staff was able to do just enough to convince the talented linebacker to take his talents to Tuscaloosa. In fact, Alabama didn't even enter the mix until late February, according to his 247Sport.com timeline. Nevertheless, as usual, Nick Saban and his guys were able to get the job done and land yet another talented recruit.
This is now just the fourth commitment for the Crimson Tide during the 2014 recruiting class and Hamilton makes it three defensive players.
The talented linebacker should fit well in the SEC due to his size at 6'1", 240 pounds, as well as his explosive playing style. Hamilton is a powerful defender that has no problem at all dropping the hammer on a ball-carrier. He does a wonderful job of finding the football quickly and was an absolute force in run defense at the high school level.
What is scary about Hamilton is that he looks like he will continue to add more good weight to his frame, as he has broad shoulders and long arms.
If there is one thing Hamilton could work on, it would be dropping back in coverage. He appears to be a little stiff when trying to change direction.
Overall, this is a solid pickup for the Crimson Tide and is just another sign that things aren't going to change any time soon for the two-time defending national champions.
